Yesteryear Collection

Through five decades, the Chevrolet Corvette has been at the forefront of innovation and design. During those years, the stylish sports cars have continued to incorporate state-of-the-art technology, handsome styling and high performance - creating an automotive tradition that looms large in the annals of American automobiles.

Now, as the century races towards its close, Chevrolet is unveiling the latest in its long line of extraordinary automobiles - the 1997 Corvette. In designing this all-new American sports car, the goal was to maintain the Corvette's legendary style and performance while making the car lighter, more efficient and more contemporary. Dubbed C5 because it's the 5th generation Corvette, this car's biggest innovation involved making the new Borg-Warner six-speed transmission a rear transaxle. This eliminated the tranny hump from the cabin floor, improving overall weight distribution. The engine was moved back, allowing for a reshaped nose and hood. The low cowl and high fenders are reminiscent of sleek Italian designs and the large rear fenders echo the look of the Acura NSX. The car also features oval taillights, superior handling and a six inch longer wheelbase for better stability. There's more headroom, legroom and trunk space. Special tyres can run a 55 mph for 200 miles when flat, eliminating the need for a spare. But what really makes this car sing is the powerplant under the hood: the 5.7 liter V8 LSI engine generates 340 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 350 lb.ft. of torque at 4400 rpm for exhilarating acceleration. This is, quite simply, the fastest Corvette ever.
